Laemmle Theater Offers Variety For Indie Film Fans

It was the year 2000, and I was 20 years old. I drove to the Laemmle Sunset 5 theater in West Hollywood to see “The Broken Hearts Club”, a gay film that spoke to the “not yet out” gay man inside me. This was a big deal to me; to see acceptance, camaraderie and gay intimacy on the big screen. No theaters in my area were showing the film, but the Laemmle offered the opportunity. Continue reading

5 Reasons Why the LA Times Festival of Books is a Must for Non-Readers

Some people might say book festivals sound, for lack of a better word, boring. I wouldn’t say this, of course. I enjoy the camaraderie of readers, the sounds of rustling pages, the smell of used books and the panels of authors discussing the meaning and intent of their work.

Nevertheless, many people do not enjoy these things. And that’s ok. There are still many things to see and do at a book fest.
